17. Haridas Thakur’s amazing attachment to the Holynames of the Lord – Chaitanya Charitamrita series
Brief introduction of the speaker: H.G. Jagannatheshwari Devi Dasi is a senior disciple of H.H Radhanath Swami Maharaja. She renders various services including proof reading of Shrimad Bhagvatam(English to Marathi for the last 10 years and is continuing till date.She has reached 10th canto). She also conducts children’s programme (drama and Bhagvad Gita shloka recitation), as a mentor she trains budding devotees in Krishna Consciousness, takes active participation in annual drama’s and kirtan (loves to sing kirtan).

Who is Haridas Thakur?
As Prahlada Maharaja appeared in a family of demons and Hanuman appeared as a monkey, Shri Haridasa Thakura appeared amongst the lower caste. Haridasa had a handsome form with all aristocratic features. Highly intellectual, he won all debates in Sanskrit and philosophy. Yet, he never lost his temper. In his youth, he became famous for his extreme devotion and ascetism. Though born in a Muslim family, when he became a Vaishnava, even brahmanas would eagerly smear their bodies with the dust of his feet.
The Supreme Lord Anantadeva Himself praises Haridasa Thakura, “Even Lord Brahma and Lord Shiva always desire to associate with such Devotees as Haridasa. And the demigods desire to touch the transcendental body of Haridasa. Simply by saying his name, Haridasa, one will be promoted to Krishna’s abode.” (Chaitanya Bhagavata).
For those of us with experience in ISKCON, Srila Haridas Thakur needs no introduction. This great saint, born a Muslim is a great inspiration to all devotees. He is the epitome of humility, austerity, sweetness, and love for Gauranga. He never loses these qualities no matter how trying the circumstances. If anyone is proof against the statement that Bhakti is easy, it is the Nama acharya.
