The power of holy name –Krupa

Long ago in a little village of India there lived a man named Gopi. He was a great devote of lord Shiva. He used to spent the entire day worshiping him. This made his wife Laxmi very angry. He did no work and so there was never enough food for them to eat. Laxmi envied her neighbors and wished she had enough money to lead a better life with good food and good clothes. Once she got very angry with Gopi and shouted at him. She asked him to live the house and return only when he had earned some money. Gopi was very sad and went far and wide in search of work. But as he had never worked a day in his life he did not know how to do anything. Tired Gopi rested under a tree and prayed to lord Shiva. Lord Shiva is known as Ashutosh or the one who gets easily pleased. Seeing Gopi’s devotion Shiva appeared before him. Gopi asked him for the most valuable thing so that his wife will be happy. Lord Shiva said go to Vrindavana there you will find a saint named Sanatana Goswami. He will give you the most valuable thing. Gopi was very excited and went fast as he could go to Vrindavana. He thought that if he got the most valuable thing Sanatana Goswami had then he would be rich without working hard and his wife would be happy.

When he reached Sanatana Goswami’s ashram he told him lord Shiva has sent me here for the most valuable thing. Sanatana Goswami said go behind this hut there you will find a heap of rubbish beneath it you will find what you seek. Gopi immediately ran behind the hut where he found a stone just below the heap of rubbish. He wondered how a mere stone could be so valuable. He went back and asked Sanatana Goswami.Sanatana Goswami said son this is not an ordinary stone touch it to any object and it will turn into gold. Gopi was very happy and went home to show his wife his treasure. Together they started turning all their household items into gold. Laxmi was happy at last. They were rich now. One day suddenly Laxmi had an doubt how many people keep this valuable stone in a heap of rubbish. It means Sanatana Goswami has no value for it. And he has more valuable thing than this. She told Gopi Lord Shiva asked you to bring the most valuable thing and you bought this. Now go back and get the most valuable thing. Poor Gopi could not not understand why his wife was not satisfied with their new found wealth. So he went back to Vrindavana to get the most valuable thing. When he reached Sanatana Goswami’s ashram he explained Sanatana Goswami about his wife’s doubt. Sanatana Goswami said your wife is correct. This stone will make you rich but it is of no value to me. If you want the most valuable thing i have then first throw this stone in Yamuna. When Gopi returned Sanatana Goswami said the most valuable thing i have is the holy name of the lord.

This is the real treasure more valuable than the treasure and riches in the whole world. Gopi’s heart was so touched by the valuable instruction of Sanatana Goswami that he returned home as an changed man chanting all the while. When his wife saw him she was so drum-struck for Gopi glowed and it seemed that he was touched by the touch stone himself. Gopi narrated what had happened to his wife. She realised her mistake in being greedy. She too joined her husband in chanting the holy name of the lord. And they lived happily ever after. So come lets chant the holy name of the lord.
